Each of our foodbank centre volunteers takes part in a 2 hour training session before joining the foodbank centre teams. The training is run by our Volunteer Manager and is done via zoom. It covers everything you need to know about volunteering at foodbank centre including: health and safety, policy and procedures, safeguarding and supporting clients.

Each of our warehouse and transport volunteers takes part in a 30 minute online training session, which covers health and safety, and each of the processes in the warehouse. But don’t worry you don’t have to remember everything.  We have large noticeboards in the warehouse that have the training content displayed to jog your memory and our Inventory Controllers are always on hand to help.

All of our volunteer take part in the basic compulsory training for their role, but we offer a whole range of other continuous personal development accredited courses that our volunteers can opt to take part in if they want – they are ideal for people who are volunteering to gain some new skills and experience. We have Health and Safety, Manual Handling, GDPR, Fire Safety and many more.

There is no cost to the volunteer for these courses

We are regularly offered tailored training from specialist organizations on topics such as Mental Health and Benefits And Welfare.  Trussell Trust also periodically offer training on a range of subjects including first aid and compassion fatigue. These are completely optional and are available to volunteers who might be interested.
