Support agencies

In response to our research, EFP developed partnerships with support agencies who could offer professional and skilled staff, to deliver ‘in kind’ drop-in sessions within the food bank centres. The support is completely optional when visiting a foodbank.

RIGHT THERE

The Personal Transitions Service (PTS) offers personalised coaching for people going through the toughest of life transitions, such as experiencing homelessness, leaving care or coming out of prison.

Inspirational PTS Coaches work alongside people so that they transition out of their situations quickly and sustainably, with a whole new community of support built around them.

What we offer

  • Person-led and strength-based coaching.
  • Bespoke connection to specialist support and advice on housing, health, finance, employment and any other things they feel will help them to get to where they want to be.
  • Local community links so people can build positive networks independent of support services. Personalised opportunities that build on people’s interests – for example, football clubs, music studios, model cars.
  • Personal budgets to build on people’s skills and aspirations.

We meet wherever people want, never in an office, and we are not afraid to have real world conversations.

We aim to be as flexible and open as possible, so please contact us if you would like to discuss a referral.

The Big Issue

The Big Issue exists to offer people the opportunity to work their way out of poverty. Big Issue sellers buy every copy of the magazine upfront for 50% of the cover price then sell it on to the public. At an induction, we will have a chat about where is best to sell, help vendors choose a pitch that they’re comfortable with and offer sales coaching too. A large part of our work at the moment is to support vendors to get ID, bank accounts and smart phones and increase their digital skills. We support vendors to first overcome poverty and social exclusion and thereafter pursue employment, training and other opportunities when they feel ready to move on from The Big Issue.

Vocal

VOCAL supports and empowers unpaid carers in Edinburgh and Midlothian through individual support, information, training and access to services.  VOCAL provides support for unpaid carers in Edinburgh and Midlothian in all caring situations and relationships, to help identify the issues affecting them and achieve the best possible outcome for carers.  VOCAL works in partnership with professionals and organisations to raise carer awareness and support carer identification and access to services.

Circle

Circle is a Scottish charity working at the heart of deprived communities across central Scotland. Our aim is to support the most disadvantaged children and families to improve their lives, promote their healthy development and reach their potential.

Social injustice, poverty and health inequalities are associated with families experiencing drug or alcohol addiction, imprisonment, neglect and abuse, family breakdown, involvement with care services, and physical and mental health problems. Circle works alongside the whole family, building on their strengths.

Access To Industry

Access to Industry works with individuals to support them into education and employment. Our work delivers real transformative change, assisting individuals to overcome personal difficulties that impede their progress.

We do this through programmes and courses that provide one-to-one support, group-work, tutored classes and work experience. Our aim is to facilitate access to further and higher education, training and employment.

Our programmes and courses develop essential core skills such as communication, ICT (Information and Communications Technology) and problem solving.  We offer individual support that aims to alleviate wider personal barriers.

Home Energy Scotland

The cost of living crisis and the increase in energy prices are worrying for us all. We can help with free, impartial advice on saving energy, keeping warm at home, renewable energy, cutting water waste and more. We’ve also published a detailed list of programmes and services that can help with financial support like debt, emergency funding and fuel vouchers.

Fuel Bank Foundation

Our vision is a United Kingdom in which everyone can afford to pay to heat their homes and cook their meals. Sadly, this isn’t the case today. When people who prepay for fuel run out of money, they are simply left without. No heating. No lighting. No hot food. No hot water. This is fuel crisis.  We have already helped over half a million people in fuel crisis, but there is still so much more work to do.

The practical solution to the immediate problem of fuel crisis is money.  We give emergency financial support to households identified as being in fuel crisis. This gives them vital breathing space to help them get back on their feet.  But, we know that this is not a long term solution to this problem.  Policy change at government level will be required. Which is why we are also working hard to actively raise awareness in the press and lobbying politicians and regulators.

VoiceAbility

We support people to be heard in decisions about their health, care and wellbeing.  We’re an independent charity and one of the UK’s largest providers of advocacy and involvement services.

Advocacy is free, independent support to involve you in decisions about your health, care and wellbeing.  An advocate is an independent professional who is on your side. They can support you to have your say and know your rights.  Advocates don’t work for the council, the NHS, or care providers. When you work with an advocate, they will keep things confidential. You don’t need to pay for an advocate.

The Salvation Army

Among our many other services, we offer support around digital inclusion. Digital skills are increasingly important in finding employment and using e-services.  There is increasing recognition that digital inclusion means not only having physical access to the internet, but also having the necessary skills, confidence and capabilities to use the internet.  It is challenging and isolating living without the benefits of the internet, yet this is the reality for one in five UK adults.
